Did you know? The origins of Bisquick can be traced to the ingenuity of a Southern Pacific dining car chef in 1930. A weary executive from General Mills Corporation sat down for a meal late one evening as he traveled from Portland to San Francisco. He was surprised when the waiter quickly served him a plate of hot, fresh biscuits. He asked about how quickly the biscuits were made. The chef explained that he combined flour, baking powder, lard, and salt and placed it in the ice chest well before serving time. At the time, of course, all cakes and breads were made from scratch. The satisfied diner shared the railroad recipe with the employees in the General Mills lab , who developed a similar blend that would soon head to the shelves of every grocery store and pantry in America. The marketing department came up with a catchy name and the rest, as they say, is history.
