August Volunteer of the Month

August 2013 John Wilson, Sr.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of another member of our B&O Railroad Museum volunteer family. John Wilson, Sr, began volunteering at the Ellicott City B&O Railroad Museum in 1996 when it was still operated by Historic Ellicott City, Inc. He was a living historian portraying a Union soldier, different townspeople and most notably the town’s sheriff. He continued as a volunteer when the B&O Railroad Museum took over operations in 2006. Since he was a retired Baltimore County Sheriff’s Deputy, he was interested in the history of the B&O Railroad Police Department. He helped research, design and collect artifacts for a display on the police department which the museum uses on special occasions. John’s commitment to history, the museum, and his willingness to spread the word about the B&O Railroad will be greatly missed.
